Summer’s End

Yet another summer nears its end. Parents excitedly purchase school supplies. Kids begin to dread the return to class. And, everyone thinks back on balmy nights and fun filled days.

This summer, I had more free time than I normally would because I took time off from work to take care of my Mom. I couldn’t go far from home except on the weekends. There were no long vacation trips but I did have fun. I spent many days at the beach, went camping with friends, marched for Pride, hiked through Taughannock Falls and even rode the roller coasters at Darien Lake!

What will I remember most about this summer? Unfortunately, the truth is that I’ll remember this as the summer Mom was sick. By next summer, she’ll probably be out and about more than I am! (Of course, with my luck I’ll be stuck working. HAH!)

Lesbians In Orbitz

The latest of Orbitz’s ‘game show’ commercials aired on bravo tonight, during project runway. Designed to promote the company’s TLC service, it features two couples who need to book a hotel fast due to a cancelled flight.

The twist? One of the couples are lesbians. While the straight couple flounders with a phonebook, the women successfully book a hotel with ease thanks to Orbitz and then celebrate their victory with a kiss.

Companies have courted homosexual consumers for years in media directed solely at gay consumers, so it was nice to see a gay friendly commercial on national television.

Granted it was hardly a risky venture, going with lesbians vs. gay men and on Bravo in that timeslot, but I can’t really think of another major brand with a commercial like that.

I might have to ponder a bit though; I seem to be getting forgetful in my old age. If you can think of any let me know!

On a side note, I’d be interested to know if they are truly gay-friendly. Do they have a corporate non-discrimination policy or LGBTI talent recruiting initiative?

Bravo’s Drama, 3% Body Fat 97% Tipsy

Did anyone else catch the season finale of Bravo’s Workout?

I know they market the show as 3% body fat, 97% drama, but I was very disappointed in Bravo.

I won’t give away any spoilers but during the end scenes of the show, it was clear that cast members we inebriated. They were not acting out to add to the drama, it was all very real and all very foolish.

If Bravo allowed this situation to happen as an alcohol warning that would be one thing, instead they blamed the entire situation on the participants’ personalities.

My comment on the situation is this, Gay drama in a bar? Go figure!

My comment on the episode, Bravo, shame on you!

P.S. I don’t normally go for muscle guys but Doug is a hottie. Especially the episode where he takes Zen hiking, ADORABLE!
