Someone hit on me at work yesterday and it really bothered me. The thing is it bothered me that it bothered me. How’s that for crazy talk?
The part that stuck in my head was, in all honesty if he’d been better looking I don’t think it would have freaked me out. There wasn’t anything wrong with him per say but he wasn’t exactly attractive.
I came to the conclusion that a sleazy approach is just a sleazy approach. While a handsome face may have helped me to overcome that, it still wouldn’t have made it less sleazy.
Here’s how it went:
Mr. Sleazy asks about a product. Scott responds yes we have that and takes the customer to the product. As Scott is walking away Mr Sleazy compliments the tattoo on Scott’s forearm. And scene:
Scott: Thanks (off-handedly and continues walking away)
Mr Sleazy: Got any others?
Scott: Yeah, three (now being followed by Mr Sleazy)
Mr Sleazy: Where?
Scott: (Now starting to realize something is off) Uh, no where I’d be showing at work.
Mr Sleazy: Oh, really? (excitedly) What about piercings? (talking lower)
Scott: I used to have some. (getting uncomfortable)
Mr Sleazy: Where?
Scott: Just in my ear (trying to be polite but now focusing on working)
Mr Sleazy: Not adventurous eh? (still talking low)
Scott: (now freaked) Well, you enjoy your shopping, excuse me (bolts for backroom)
So was that truly creepy or was I just being superficial?

No, that’s pretty rude and creepy for a complete stranger to do to an employee at a company he’s a customer of. Especially when it’s objious you’re trying to avoid the topic.
